About

This blog has had several names in several domains.

It first appeared as a blogger blog called Book Gobbler, then I got annoyed by the limitations of Blogger and moved on the WordPress.com, and reinvented it as Wonder Worlds, because I realise that I don’t want to blog just about books but about movies and TV as well. Then I got annoyed by WordPress.com’s “no scripts allowed” rule, and decided to have my own domain!

But I had to figure out a new name. Again. Because wonderworlds.com was already taken.

After some pondering, I thought Imaginary Lands was just right.

Why do I blog?

I watch an unearthly amount of movies, TV dramas (of the English, Chinese and South Korean persuasion), and anime. I also read far too much – my 1,000 book library is evidence of that. My friend, Daphne (who is also a columnist for The Star – she writes a column about children and young adult books called Tots to Teens) has once described my reading taste as being “eclectic”, and it’s true, to an extent.

It’s more like I have obsessions, and when I’m gripped by one, I’d usually burn through the genre like quick fire. Apparently, I started the Daniel Steele craze in my secondary school; after watching a made-for-TV Daniel Steele movie, I was suddenly overcome by the urge to read every single book she wrote.

I did the same for the romance genre; though I think I burnt my bridges with that particular genre. These days, I pick up a romance book only to read the sypnopsis on the back for laughs.

My current craze appears to be non-fiction books; a terribly expensive hobby as there are not many second-hand non fiction books available in Malaysia. However, it seems that I’ve not given up on the fantasy, crime and general fiction genre yet.

Now about “literary” books? Uhm, I do find it difficult to get authors I really like. So far, Su Tong seems to be my constant favourite. So, at least, I can pretend to be intelligent at cocktail parties by boasting that I’ve read him.
